Vince Eager (born Roy Taylor in 1940 in Grantham)
Vince was an English pop musician who as a teenager started in a Skiffle group called the Vagabonds as the vocalist. Later he was promoted by impresario Larry Parnes who took him into his stable of performers and gave him one of his characteristic stage names, Vince Eager.
During 1959 he was a regular on BBC TV's Drumbeat, often accompanied by the John Barry Seven, and in the early 1960s went on the usual pop package shows. He did make a few records that had a mediocre success in the UK hits chart.
In the years that followed the Parnes era, he toured on the cabaret circuit and performed in theatre and pantomime. For five years he starred in the West End musical Elvis. In 1986 he moved to Florida, United States, where worked as a cruise director on American luxury cruise ships. Now residing in the UK and living in Nottingham,he is still teaming up with other musicians, including his old friend Marty Wilde.
It was in early 1961 that Vince Eager paid a visit to our Gaumont Ballroom. He did sing some of his ballads with the odd rock and roll numbers. It was different, but went down well with the girls, after all he was tall, good-looking, and had lots of charisma. During Dadio's and my time with him that night, he was good company and we remembered him for his showmanship.
