The Pile Bar Bradford - "The Out of Town in Scene!"
Formerly the Silk and Textile Club, this plush club underwent an extension in 1978. In 1986 now better known as the Pile Bar was badly damaged by fire, however, by 1988 local millionaire Chris Delaney had saved the day by purchasing the bar, and turning it into an upmarket, smart and comfortable club.
It was at this venue that Bradford impresario and entertainer Garth Cawood assembled a crowd of local rock 'n' rollers in 1989 for a reunion gig.
"No jeans - No trainers"!
It was intended to be a one-off, however, it was such a success that it was repeated the following year, and in 1991 and 1992. Last year though Garth said he thought there would be no more of these nostalgic evenings bopping to bands who used to entertain at the Majestic and the Gaumont. But neither the public nor the musicians wanted to let the tradition end.
Tuesday, May 11th will see the fifth rock 'n' roll reunion at the Pile Bar in Lilycroft Road with the entertainment again provided by the likes of The Cresters, The Dingos, and the Mike Sagar Band "Everyone wanted to do it again," said Garth. "And this year we've managed to track down Lee Chevin and the Ravers, who were another of Bradford's popular bands. The ticket price is held £4, and if the previous experience is repeated the evening will be a sell-out in advance. Linking the live bands this year will be disc-jockeys Dal and Dadio alias Derek A J Lister and Terry Moran.
