I always thought that many female singers got overlooked. I spoke to, and met many of them whilst writing the book, and found their stories were almost the same. A few may have lived in one of the new council houses sprouting up around the city. Others were living in a back-to-back house with no bathroom and an outside toilet. Some had made their own dresses to complement the groups, and most of them were working full-time jobs.
This would mean a bus home, a quick change to join the group, and probably using the bus again, or if lucky the group van would pick them up. However, I was surprised by how many used public transport. Some kept with the same group others changed, or disillusioned, would call it a day.
Speaking to some of them later, all of them were glad to have taken part in our rock 'n' roll days and to be recognised by their children and grandchildren in a book. So, in a way, they all made it to the top, and are remembered today. So read their stories that celebrated our lovely rock 'n' roll girls.
